2020 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Team Crown Bay Marina at the 61st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Owned by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and Produced by Informa Markets, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Is the Largest In-Water Boat Show in the World

Our goal was to promote St. Thomas as the wonderful destination it is with its gorgeous and pristine surroundings, and of course our marina with its full range of shore side faculties and new amenities. We had the chance to talk with a lot of Captain’s and everyone was happy to hear about how well we were doing since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. https://www.flibs.com/en/home.html

The Crown Bay Marina’s second annual Irmageddon Poker Run brought together the boating community, the marina, and Virgin Islands local youth through the St. Thomas Boys and Girls Club on Sunday.

The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a ceremonial helicopter flyover, followed by a search and rescue demonstration outside the entrance of Crown Bay Marina. Rescue swimmer Phoenix Hannah was deployed mid-air and simulated the recovery of a distressed swimmer.

Hannah then swam 103 meters to the docks of Crown Bay Marina where he addressed the gathered boaters and dignitaries wishing everyone a safe and fun day on the water.

For the poker run, the boats followed a route visiting hard hit areas including Cruz Bay on St. John, Coki Beach, Brewers Beach, Honeymoon Beach on Water Island and finishing at Crown Bay Marina.

Shamara Capitolin was the poker run winner. The winner of the first Miss Irmageddon contest was Lekia Gumbs, who received a crown made by Crown Bay Marina owner Kosei Ohno from powerline debris that was recovered from the roadside following Hurricane Irma.

A number of law enforcement agencies participated in the event.

The boating community came together on Sunday for the Crown Bay Marina’s inaugural
Irmageddon Poker Run.
The boats followed a route visiting areas that were hard hit by September’s hurricanes,
including Cruz Bay on St. John, Coki Point and Brewers Bay on St. Thomas, and Honeymoon
Beach on Water Island.

The winner, David McDonnell, will have his name inscribed on a unique trophy that was
handcrafted by Crown Bay Marina owner Kosei Ohno from a telephone pole that was shattered
by Hurricane Irma.
“I decided we would create an event to show the world we were not defeated by the storm, but
we would rebuild. We would recover. We would continue to see beauty in all things,” said
Ohno in a news release. “The diamond shield on the face of the trophy reminds us that we are
a diamond in the rough — that beauty can come from what may seem like an insignifcant
rock but when hard work and dedication are applied to that rock, what emerges is a work of art
of immense value for all to behold.”
Coming in second and third in the poker run was Ranney Laronde, with three jacks and three
fives, respectively. The Best Dressed award went to Boyce Bryan, of “Unexpected,” who also
won for Best Paint.
Best Paint: Boyce Bryan, Boat Name “Unexpected.”
